The week of October 22-26 2007 witnessed the largest, most successful campus demonstrations by students not associated with the anti-American left in the history of campus protests. 114 college and university campuses participated in “Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, which highlighted the threat from the Islamic jihad, and the oppression of Muslim women. It featured a petition against the violent oppression of women in Islam and circulation of a pamphlet on that issue; an advertising campaign in campus newspapers; sit-ins at women’s studies departments to protest the lack of concern for this oppression on the part of feminists; showings of documentaries such as “Obsession” and “Suicide Killers”; panel discussions and talks with speakers such as former Senator Rick Santorum, Ann Coulter, Robert Spencer, Nonie Darwish, Wafa Sultan, Michael Medved, Dennis Prager and Daniel Pipes.
By the end of the Week there were some 644,000 references to the event on the internet. There was coverage – often multiple news reports and opinion columns -- in all the student papers on campuses where events took place and broad coverage in the mainstream media.
